Is there anyone in your life who reminds you of Marsha? Kaitlyn, our book club manager, for example, met such a friend in 2017, when she was barely starting to figure herself out. They saw Kaitlyn for who she was, sat with her when she was going through it, and connected her to a community of people who are still in her life. That special friend practiced genuine love and community care, and, in turn, Kaitlyn became better part of her community because of it.
I remember the queer women who took me under their wing when I first came out and their guidance was invaluable. It helped me to understand the importance of community and how to give as much as you receive.
What have you learned from the Marshas in your life, or, what ideas did the book give you to be more like Marsha with your neighbors?
