Girlie works as an internet content moderator, a job that, for many, is psychologically taxing. In what ways is Girlie predisposed to be good at her job? In what ways does she protect herself from potentially triggering situations? In what ways does being good at this job make things difficult for Girlie’s personal life? What’s the weirdest job you’ve had to take to make ends meet? Have you worked anywhere that required you to emotionally disconnect? How did you take care of yourself?
Tomorrow, we will be in conversation with Elaine? What questions do you have for her? And if you’d like to register for the conversation, there is still time.
My question for Elaine is about humor and whether she intended for the book to be funny, or that just came along with writing in Girlie's incredibly unique voice - in particular, I found the scene where Girlie is forced to introduce her work colleagues to Marisol at the launch event equal parts cringe and hilarious. Any time a book makes me laugh out loud, it shoots to the top of my faves list, so would love to know her thinking about this!
Those are all amazing and delicious questions.
