Have you heard of the book Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism? It’s a memoir from a former Meta employee, Sarah Wynn-Williams, about working at Facebook and the things she experienced during her tenure . It’s absolutely WILD. I had not heard of the book but then Meta sued and got an injunction that prevents the author from promoting the book. In turn, they gave the author an invaluable amount of free publicity. Streisand Effect at work!
Anyway, when I heard about the lawsuit, I immediately bought the book. This is not the type of book I normally gravitate to (because I don’t care that much about Big Tech) but Careless People is really well-written, funny, horrifying, and quite compelling. I was on the edge of my seat, turning pages as fast as I could and ended up read the book in less than a day. I cackled. I gasped. I laughed. I cringed. I cackled some more. I cringed some more.
