Keep up with the Joel Gay Creative Fellows, Jet Toomer, Jesus Rodriguez, and Elspeth Michaels.

The November selection for the Audacious Book Club is Less is Lost by Andrew Sean Greer. Our conversation with Andrew takes place on November 17th at 8pm EST/5 pm PST and registration is open. If you missed this week’s conversation with Lola Ogunyemi, you can watch it on YouTube.

I am reading submissions to The Audacity’s Emerging Writer Series. Read the guidelines and submit your best writing. Submissions will be open until I have 24 essays.

Don’t Forget: Why Design Matters by Debbie Millman.

Debbie also has a new project, The Remarkable Life Deck, if you want to think through what the next decade of your life could look like. The cards are really beautiful and this is such a valuable exercise for looking ahead and taking stock of where you are. I don’t say that lightly. Normally, this isn’t my kind of thing but The Remarkable Life Deck is excellent.

If you’re looking for a nice notebook, check out my new Draft Writing Journal from Baron Fig. It’s pretty swank if I do say so myself AND back in stock.

Another week, another installment of Work Friend. Guys, stop worrying about what your coworkers are up to!

In Essence, Brooklyn White goes deep on the state of R & B.

Elon Musk bought Twitter and is taking it private and has lots of strange ideas about how to run the platform. In the hours after the takeover, racists flocked to the site to use the N-word. I guess a lot of people are just holstering that word until they can freely use it. That’s the amazing thing about obscene wealth—you can do whatever you want and ruin entire companies without consequence. Anyway, he plans to charge users $20 a month for verification and either he is overestimating how much verified users care about the blue checkmark or I am underestimating that.

A man broke into Nancy and Paul Pelosi’s home and attacked Paul and yikes, is all I have to say about that.

Have you noticed that the actors who were rocking romantic comedies twenty years ago are the same actors making rom coms today? Funny that.

Speaking of, it seems like Julia Roberts comes from good people.

Healthcare can mean all kinds of things.

Giselle is divorcing that one quarterback who can’t quit football.

A new essay, Sprawl, from Katie Kitamura.

P.F. Chang’s has a new CEO, a young guy! I went there once, many years ago, and there was an egg shell in my wonton soup.

Churches aren’t supposed to endorse political candidates but they do and STILL don’t have to pay taxes. Seems sus if you ask me.

Economics is starting to have a #MeToo reckoning.

Prince Harry’s memoir is coming out in January and it’s called Spare. I, for one, cannot wait to read it. He’s got them royals TENSE.

Matthew Perry also has a new memoir and he weirdly brings Keanu Reeves into a narrative he has nothing to do with.

The comedy of parents….

Kanye West has had a busy couple weeks being antisemitic and otherwise blowing up his life and acting strangely and showing up at Skechers uninvited.

On Mike Davis and the many things he was right about.

Deborah Kass writes about how she doesn’t want to have to leave but is hyperaware that this country is increasingly unsafe.

In praise of the Sprinter van.

Angela Bassett, goddess, and one of Glamour’s women of the year.

Taylor Swift’s tenth album, Midnights, is out now. I haven’t listened to it, tbh.

Brittney Griner’s appeal was denied and she still faces nine years in a Russian penal colony. May her release be secured as soon as possible and until then, we will not forget her or her plight.

Outdoor dining rose out of the pandemic as a way for restaurants to survive and I don’t think it’s going to end anytime soon. I don’t really mind the outdoor outposts though the plywood is mighty ugly.

Armed, masked men are intimidating voters in Arizona and this is legal which is just so egregious.

Three people ordered cocaine from the same drug postmates and it was laced with fentanyl and they died which is a damn shame.

RIP Leslie Jordan, hella funny, charming, and always a joy to watch on screen.

“Men used to go to war” “men were sent to hunt and provide” please know that no matter what time period, I never would have done that shit. I would’ve been in the town square calling myself a philosopher saying “well… some things ARE and some things are NOT”

I blame Lisa Rinna for inflation. We should be talking about THAT.

Great round-up as per uszh, the curated tweets are absolute joy. Thank you!
