The title of the novel refers to the way rich people, or other people with more means/options than their neighbors, fled big cities when the pandemic started. Darla, the one truly rich person in the novel, has access to a cottage in the Catskills and finally convinces her husband to go there. Why was Theo was so resistant to leave? Truly, what was going on there? What secrets have Theo and Darla kept from each other, and how does that play into their fight on the hike? As the novel’s main conflict, Darla’s disappearance, intensifies, did you have any predictions or suspicions about what happened to her? How mysterious was the mystery at the heart of this novel, for you?

I was completely surprised by all the twists and turns! I couldn't wait to keep reading.
I'm still sorting out Theo's motivations, but, on a purely technical level, was really delighted when Darla re-entered the narrative and acted in a way that drew the net of characters tighter. A great, unexpected twist that lengthened the suspense of the novel and also gave me confidence that the author has control.
