I loved this book — despite the somewhat grim premise it manages somehow to be funny, I found myself thinking Armfield could write a great standup set. In the end it is even hopeful in the way it shows how love and human relationships motivate us to adapt no matter what.
Book Club Question: are all the books intense? I have started a few books intending to join but I can’t read them fast enough b/c they are so heavy, good but heavy.
From my month long experience they generally seem to be no more than 250 pages each. I think that’s pretty doable to do before the meeting. But everyone goes at their own pace. I don’t think it’s a problem to join the group discussion without finishing
Early impressions are that it's stressful to read a book that takes place in the midst of a climate crisis; she does such a good job of showing how the instability permeates everything. Everything changes yet life goes on and lives continue, almost like slogging through mud.

Not all are heavy! Some are lighter, some are faster reads. I do feel like last year was not my favorite of hers, there were a few I didn't care for.

Yes and no. I have found listening to the books has helped me keep up/finish before the end of the month. I hope that is helpful.

I have started this book and found I did need to slow down with it. I’m finding it hard to keep my breath or my head above the water.
