I never gave much thought to having an archive until institutions started asking me if I would bequeath my archive to them. That’s pretty morbid, if you think about it but I’ve always thought, “I have no idea what I would include.” I don’t do a lot of writing by hand. I don’t have a lot of physical writing-related ephemera. But in reading Black Futures, I started to think more about this idea of the archive, of black archives. In Ayana Jamieson’s piece “Far Beyond the Stars,” she offers strategies for maintaining your own archive. What kinds of things would you include in your personal archive, and why?
