The Audacious Book Club Discussion: Detransition, Baby.

Right after Katrina outs Ames as trans to their clients, she asks him “why can’t you just love me, and be who I thought you were?” (Pg. 93) This question feels like a pivotal one and plays out in large ways and small in the novel as a whole for all of the characters. Why do you think it is so difficult for these characters to love each other as they are? Why does the image they have of each other not align with the reality of who they are, and what does that have to do with the gender and identity dynamics at play in their lives and relationships?
