I didn't realise, as someone with zero interest in this movie, that this was the one way I would want to know about it. This had me CACKLING.

So much this. As an aging fat menopausal 54 year old women I was disheartened by Kelly McGillis comments and a feeling of invisibility and more unworthiness. I am just exhausted from the male testosterone "hell ya" persona that is devoid of depth and emotion.

"not a facial muscle moving because they’ve all been Botoxed to Xenu and back." Comedy Central needs to invite you to their next celebrity roast!

Purchased with my own working dollars at 13 years of age, I had Tom Cruise plastered on my bedroom walls. Thirty-five years later, I have zero interest in watching Top Gun: Maverick, possibly because from previews alone it felt hollow, empty. Given the rich landscape of ideas, actors, beauty, and originality that exists in this world, the movie felt plastic, lacking substance. Your words (as they ALWAYS do) were perfectly cured. Thank you for reminding my 48 year self it's okay and normal to age, become full in body, become soft and curvy, and realize that I get to define my own version of beauty.

Spot on! This review nailed it. And I enjoyed the movie. Both are true!

Watched with my 65 year old boyfriend and he LOVED it. I wondered why movies with such obvious war propaganda still win men over (especially a man who claims to be anti-war). Are they just stupid? Or still hoping they will become testosterone heros? I suppose if they elected a malignant narcissist for president, that explains their worldview and why this movie has appeal.

Thank you. I'm back to feeling solid for having zero interest in seeing this film. Maybe if Meg Ryan was in it, I would want to see it but -- nah.

Thank you! It says a lot that the most entertaining part of the movie was the drunk man who passed out in the first 30 minutes. I have no desire to see this film, but thoroughly enjoyed your review.

It was ridiculous nostalgia, devoid of a lot. Your review nailed it. At the same time, I was in a theater for the first time post pandemic with 4 girl friends in a packed theater and enjoyed being with friends, taking it in. Meg Ryan’s character had died of cancer I think. I enjoyed being in community with others. And could appreciate the ridiculousness and warped narrative of all of it, at the same time And yes, the “Botox”! Who the hell is allowed to age normally these days?

It is noble to age normally so they can't bribe you into an undignified return to the well... I just read a review of Tom Perrotta's sequel to Election, and it feels rather like this.
